When I realized that I needed to file for bankruptcy due to some unfortunate circumstances, I did an online search for a Trustee. I had a number to choose from, as I lived in Vancouver at the time. I chose Grant Thornton, and I am very glad I did. I had previously worked with a lady years ago that told me she and her husband had to file bankruptcy for the family business as it was destroyed by one of her siblings. They had a Trustee and had started the process and paid a lot of money, but their TRUSTEE declared bankruptcy! I was therefore very leary of who to pick.
Grant Thornton looked the best to me, and I was very correct. I was treated with respect, dignity, and everyone was so very helpful to me. I especially want to reach out to Thank the reception desk at the Vancouver office downtown. She is an irish lady (sorry, I forgot the name — I’m 71 ) and she was so pleasant and helpful always. Once COVID hit, I received all the info I needed in an email from GT and I had all the info I needed. They did my income tax for the first year of bankruptcy, and I have finally finished the whole process and been discharged. This is a very professional company with very high standards, and I highly recommend them to anyone who finds themselves in such a situation to need their help. Good, friendly, caring people who really care about their clients and do everything necessary to make the process smooth and glitch free.

It took years before I was willing to accept that my finances were not going to fix themselves. After a few very helpful sessions with a counsellor at GT, I started to see some perspective. Even then, I let it linger for another year before finally asking for help and guidance in getting things in order. I’m very grateful for the courteous assistance I have received from various staff members. Never would they rush me. Always, somebody would take the time to explain things in a pleasant and not-condescending way. They really tried to make me NOT feel like a loser. Susan has been a god-sent. Still, I can’t say that I would recommend the procedure. It’s not fun and it’s (of course) not meant to be fun. The short-term effects are not pleasant – but I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
If it needs to be done, then I can’t imagine a gentler partner than GT. Thanks for all the help and assistance in lifting the burden.— Martin, Nova Scotia
